Motivating Change is a training designed to help individuals encourage growth, build engagement, and support positive behavioral change through effective communication. Participants will explore techniques that foster collaboration, strengthen motivation, and reduce resistance in conversations with others regardless of the relationship. Through practical scenarios and practical tools this course develops skills in active listening, goal-focused communication, and empowering others to identify meaningful and sustainable steps toward change.

Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Recognize the stages of change (Pre-Contemplation, Contemplation, Determination, Action, Maintenance, and Relapse) and accurately identify where a client is in the change process.

Demonstrate how to adapt goals and interventions to align with each stage of change for more effective client engagement.

Identify different types of change talk using the DARN-CAT framework (Desire, Ability, Reasons, Need, Commitment, Activation, Taking Steps).

Utilize practical strategies and open-ended questions to evoke and strengthen change talk while minimizing sustain talk and resistance.

Apply Motivational Interviewing principles to create collaborative dialogue that increases the likelihood of client change.

Use tools such as Decisional Balance to help clients explore the pros and cons of current behaviors versus new practices.

Practice applying these skills through case scenarios, self-reflection, and debriefing activities.
This workshop emphasizes both theoretical understanding and hands-on skill development, leaving participants with immediately applicable techniques to enhance client motivation and outcomes.
